Recently acquired for $650 million by China's Dalian Wanda Group, the Ironman Triathlon is making its waves once again in the tropical island of Bintan, just an hour's ferry away from Singapore. With marathons and "typical running events" becoming passe in Singapore, more people are looking to explore new grounds, new boundaries and ultimately, a new self. Although, this post has been presented by Ironman Bintan, all thoughts and opinions are from SingaSports.

Ahhh...Bintan. The Indonesian island Singaporeans and Malaysians love to visit for a short getaway, far from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Just an hour’s ferry ride from Singapore, the golden beaches, lovely hotels and chillax vibe are definitely an attraction for those seeking some well deserved rest and possibly a way to spend their 1.2 months mid year bonus.

But for a sports enthusiast, Bintan is a perfect location for most types of sports events due to its rich natural landscape (read: NOT BORING CBD BUILDINGS). With its long winding roads, trail routes and a beautiful beach, its basically a hallmark for a triathlon venue - even more so, the Ironman Triathlon. The 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike ride, and a 21.1 km run will surely seem like a stroll in a park. Not.

Still a competitive race, expect to see throngs of people splashing into the clear waters and emerging out of it with a "Omg, I have aother 111.1km to cover still!" look on their faces. Indeed, the Ironman 70.3 is not for your everyday runner or gym-goer. It takes great mental and mettle strength to complete the gruelling course. That's why some people even tattoo it on their body when they completed it!

Well, have we done an Ironman 70.3 before, you ask? Nope. But like most of you out there, we could definitely complete the 90km bike and 21.1km run. Just that initial bit of swimming that drowns our hope. Nevertheless, if you think you have what it takes to earn your Ironman stripes, race on!
